Ride to Grass Point

Training has now started! But as it is now raining, perhaps I won't go out on the bike tonight after all.

Last night, having been to Oban to buy some bits and pieces for the trip including a small camera to record my journey, I returned home, cut the grass, walked the dogs and then went for a ride to Grass Point. This is a good road to train on as it is undulating, much as I imagine it will be in Cornwall. It was a beautiful evening so made for a lovely ride (apart from the midges!) and I took some pictures with the new camera. Also being a very bumpy road, it will hopefully quickly break in the new Brooks saddle.

The Time is Drawing Close

Welcome and thank you for viewing this blog. Some of you may have seen the test pages but those were only pieces written by John, my brother. This is the real thing my first ever blog!
Which way up does this thing go?
In 35 days I’ll be setting off to cycle the four compass points of Great Britain, that’s the furthest points north, south, east and west. Starting in the south at The Lizard, I’ll be heading east to Lowestoft, then to the western most point at Ardnamurchan, and finally north to Dunnet Head. I also intend to include Lands End and John O’Groats. Although these are not the most southerly or northerly, by riding that little bit extra and including them, I can also say I have cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats.
So far I seem to have done very little in preparation for this journey. I have a rough plan of the route, but my aim is to keep it simple so that I can vary it should I choose. As I haven't been riding my bike as much as I'd like, I made the decision to finish working at Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull, so that I can spend more time in training. I have been cycling approximately 8 to 12 miles a day, to and from work. Although not much time has been spent on the bike, I’ve had plenty of practice at long days as I’ve been working 9am to 8pm four days a week!

My aim is to post and entry every few days, so please revisit and take a look whenever you can. I hope to benefit a charity from my efforts, so I’ll write and tell you all about my chosen charity, what they do and how you can help by supporting them. Watch this space!
